• Ottawa, October 4, 2013 - Families of Sisters In Spirit vigil in remembrance of 600 missing or murdered indigenous women. Demonstrators gathered at the human rights monument on Lisgar/Elgin before marching to the office of the prime minister and onto the steps of parliament hill. Welcoming guests to unceded Algonquin territory, community elders and families of those missing or murdered shared their stories, making a plea for the government to acknowledge the epidemic of violence against First Nations women in Canada. Close to 200 of these annual vigils were held across Canada.
